Do you have a working smoke alarm in your home? A smoke alarm is the first line of defense to protect your family in the event of a fire. Most serious and fatal fires happen during the night and your family needs to be prepared. Did you know, according to the United States Fire Administration, smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years? Batteries, now, are sealed in the unit and cannot be replaced. Therefore, new alarms are needed after 10 years.
The Gates Fire District and the Gates-Chili Fire Department want to keep our community safe. If you need a smoke alarm, please contact us at (585) 426-2720; and we will provide you with up to three smoke alarms for your home and install them free of charge. That’s right, they will be provided to you free of charge!
In addition, we will also check to ensure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm. It is now a law in New York State that all homes must have a carbon monoxide alarm. Carbon monoxide is a poisonous, odorless, toxic gas that can cause severe injury and even result in death. Carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced every 10 years also.
