These devices are designed to stop the flow of gas in the event a fire is started in the oxygen tubing. They are FDA approved and meet VA, ISO (International Standardization Organization) and other regulatory requirements. They are supported by the American Burn Association, The COPD Foundation, The International Assoc. of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), International Assoc. of Firefighters (IAFF) and the Medical Director of the Gates Fire District.
This is a bidirectional valve, which means it can be installed either way in the oxygen delivery tubing.
It is recommended that at least 2 devices be installed to each oxygen delivery circuit. The first should be positioned close to the patient and the second close to the source of supply. The valve provides no protection if a fire burns through the oxygen tubing upstream of the device.
These lifesaving devices are provided FREE OF CHARGE to all Gates Fire District residents. For more information or to schedule an appointment to have these installed, please contact our Community Risk Reduction Office at 585-426-2720, ex. 118.
